Kostmayer constructed a guidewall system for the U.S. Corps of Engineers to protect the inner harbor from a flooding storm surge from Lake Pontchartrain. The guidewall consisted of polymeric piles in a vertical and batter configuration and due to the compacted sand along the channel’s bottom, the piles had to be “jetted” with high-pressure water while driving in.
